    Head of Operations - CLARE

    We are currently seeking a highly skilled Head of Operations to join a dynamic team within a leading tourism development organization. This role presents a compelling opportunity for an experienced professional to make a significant impact in the operational management of a prominent visitor attraction.

    As the Head of Operations, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a renowned visitor attraction. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will collaborate closely with senior management and operational teams to enhance the visitor experience and uphold the organization's commitment to excellence.

    A flexible attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to go the extra mile are essential. The role will primarily be based at the designated site with occasional travel to other tourism locations within the portfolio. Operational hours may vary seasonally, including weekends and holidays as dictated by business needs.

     

    Priority Areas for the Head of Operations:

    • Overseeing the operational and health & safety aspects of the visitor experience, including visitor and capacity management.

    • Ensuring that the key objectives of the organisation are met by managing workloads and maximising resource use.

    • Leading the Operations Management Team and staff.

    • Ensuring a world-class visitor experience while promoting a workplace culture built on trust and respect.

    • Overseeing the smooth operation of the Burren and Cliffs Explorer shuttle bus service.


    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

    The main duties of the Head of Operations include:

    • Coordinating all operational activity at all visitor attraction sites to ensure a world-class visitor experience.

    • Communicating expectations and implementing all Standard Operating Procedures and policies to all staff and managers on site.

    • Ensuring compliance with legislative standards, company policies, procedures, handbooks, and expectations.

    • Approving monthly staff rosters to ensure appropriate staffing levels .

    • Supervising daily rosters to ensure staffing efficiency and accountability.

    • Ensuring the health and safety of employees and visitors 

    • Planning operations in advance and managing visitor capacity.

    • Developing and launching new products and services in coordination with the Marketing Department.

    • Managing service licensing, including requests, amendments, and addressing breaches.

    • Handling operational trade communications.

    • Supervising and managing the performance of Operational Duty Managers, the Facilities Manager, and Supervisors.

    • Maintaining site and facilities standards to ensure a world-class visitor experience.

    • Providing operational reporting as required to the General Manager 

    • Overseeing onsite and digital signage.

    • Managing customer complaints effectively.

    • Responding to various crisis situations (e.g. extreme weather, fire evacuations, etc.).

    • Developing operational plans to enhance site performance.

    • Establishing and maintaining internal communication and meeting structures to optimise teamwork and productivity.

    • Maintaining a visible and active presence across sites.

    • Fostering strong employee relations and open communication.

    • Delivering specific projects as assigned.

    • Researching and recommending new methods, products, and services to enhance service delivery.

    • Undertaking special projects as directed by the Company.

    • Participating in outreach activities to support Clare County Council’s tourism initiatives.

    • Managing the operational budget.

    • Deputising for the General Manager – West, as required.


    Requirements / Essential Skills and Attributes:

    • Proven experience in operational health & safety management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

    • A diploma or degree in tourism, visitor management, or a related discipline. A health & safety qualification is an advantage.

    • Familiarity with workforce management systems.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and a flexible approach.

    • Experience managing teams in small to medium-sized enterprises.

    • Strong teamwork and motivational skills.

    • Excellent organisational and multi-tasking abilities.

    • A commitment to excellence, innovation, and world-class service.

    • Ability to enforce standards, policies, and procedures effectively.

    • Exceptional attention to detail.

    • Capacity to perform under pressure.

    • Ability to maintain the confidentiality and security of visitor and company information.

    • A full, clean driving licence is required.

    • The position will operate on a seven-day rota in line with business needs, with working hours varying seasonally.
